This page follows one session from the recording to the page the client keeps, with every timing on it measured on the date shown. The report is the written summary a client receives after a session, and this is the whole of one: the file, the permission, the draft, the edit, the send.

The report, the email and the client's page below are drawn from Slide's own demo record rather than from that client's file, because a client's session is not ours to publish. Northline Tutoring is a made up centre and Maya is a made up student.

01The recording

The session arrived as one file, recorded on the practitioner's own device.

Slide opens no microphone of its own. A session reaches it as an audio file you upload or a transcript you paste, and the file described below is the one every timing on this page was taken from.

The report, the written summary your client receives after a session, is drafted from that file and from nothing else. Anyone can send a file of their own down the same route: it is the free tool this site publishes, with no account and no card.

The call recorder is built and is not switched on, so this session was uploaded rather than joined.

02The permission

Nothing is drafted until the practitioner confirms that everyone agreed.

The upload form carries one required box, and the server checks it again before a word is written. A recording that arrives without it is not drafted, and there is no setting that turns the check off.

The line it writes into the report

It sits at the foot of the report, where the client reads it, rather than in a log only the practitioner can see.

The tutor reads this draft, changes anything that is off, and sends it. Nothing reaches a student or a parent before a person has read it. Slide drafts nothing from a recording until the tutor confirms that everyone in it agreed to be recorded; for a student under 18, that is a parent or guardian.

Start the next session with the timed set she brings back. If the four steps hold under time pressure, move on to solving by completing the square. If they do not, spend the first twenty minutes there rather than adding anything new.

Nothing in it is invented: if something was not said in the session, it is not in the report. The document is the demo record's 45 minute lesson, and the timing above it is the measured upload, so read the two as what they are rather than as one stopwatch. 04The edit

The practitioner reads the draft and decides what the parent reads.

The record keeps the drafted report and the message that went out, and nothing in between, so this is the line as drafted beside the line as sent rather than a replay of the typing. Slide sends nothing on its own: there is no automatic send and no setting to turn one on.

Maya's session today: factoring, and what to practise

Hello,

Maya and I worked on factoring quadratics this afternoon, the harder kind where the number in front of the squared term is not one. She could already do the simpler version. What was slowing her down was the method: she was guessing which numbers would work instead of using a step that always gets there. We wrote that step out together and she used it on her own by the end of the session.

Two things before Thursday. Practice set four, problems one to twelve, using the four steps rather than guessing. Then five problems against a ten minute timer, and she brings back any she could not finish, unfinished, so we can look at where it broke down.

One thing worth knowing: she asked why the method works today, which she has not done before. That is a good sign and I want to keep it going.
