Over a year, your own students on the Professional plan leave you $3,600.10 more than the marketplace.
Your own students’ rows are before any fee PayPal or Stripe takes when a client pays your link by card. In the Professional row the month takes off the monthly price and the year the yearly one. A year here is 52 weeks of lessons and a month is a twelfth of that, so weeks off make both smaller.
What a marketplace’s share pays for
A marketplace finds you students, and its share of every lesson is how it gets paid for that. The gap in the table is only yours for students who already book with you or find you on their own.
Our Free plan is $0, with 3 session reports a month. The Professional plan is $29.99 a month or $299.90 a year, with 200 reports a month. Neither takes a commission, and clients pay you directly.
Where the marketplace rates come from
Wyzant says tutors keep 75% of their posted hourly rate and Wyzant keeps a 25% platform fee. A new student you bring to Wyzant yourself costs you no fee.

Preply keeps all of every trial lesson with a new student, which this calculator leaves out. After that it takes between 18% and 33% of your hourly rate, starting at 33% for new tutors and falling as your hours there add up.
