What happens when my client is a child?

The guardian is the person you set up as the client. Everything else in Slide follows the client record, so getting that one field right settles the rest.

Put the guardian in the client record

A child cannot give the consent that recording needs. When the person in the session is under 18, the parent or guardian gives it on the child's behalf, and where the law requires that consent it is you, the practitioner, who has to obtain it.

Inside Slide that turns into two things. The guardian is the person you set up as the client, so the write-up email and the client portal go to the guardian. Before Slide drafts anything from a recording, you confirm on screen that everyone in the session agreed; for a child, that confirmation is your statement that you have the parent's or guardian's agreement.

Put the guardian in the client record, because the client record is what everything else follows: whoever is in it is who the write-up email goes to and who opens the portal.

Slide does not collect a date of birth

There is no age field, no birthday, and no step that asks you to prove anyone's age. Slide does not check anyone's age and cannot tell you which rule applies where you work. The client record is the whole of it.

What that looks like week to week

A tutor with a fifteen year old student sets the parent up as the client, with the parent's email address. The tutor records the lesson with the parent's agreement, uploads it, and ticks the box that confirms everyone agreed. Then the write-up is drafted, the tutor edits it, and the write-up email lands in the parent's inbox with a private link to the portal where every previous session is already sitting.

The student is still the person in the room and still the subject of the write-up. What the client record decides is who is asked and who is written to, not who the work is about.

Slide Practice itself is a tool for practitioners and may not be used by anyone under 18. And this page describes what the product does; it is not legal advice, and the rules on recording a minor differ by country and by state.

The published policy is section 7 of the recording and consent page. Section 14 of the Privacy Policy says the same thing about the data, and section 15.5 of the Practitioner Agreement says it as an obligation you have already accepted.
